This section provides profiles for business and management courses offered at the Royal College of Science and Technology in Ruiru. In detailing the courses, information is provided with respect to the general objectives of each course, regulations governing the course, course duration, entry requirements and career opportunities available on successful completion of the course.
The courses offered in the college are those in line with national goals and objectives of the business related diploma training programs which are:
- To train middle level diploma business personnel
- To develop professional skills, attitudes and ethics required for delivery of relevant and appropriate business care services.
- To prepare trainees to work with professional confidence in the delivery of business services in public and private sectors.
- To impart adequate administrative legal and managerial skills for appropriate deployment business services.

DIPLOMA IN SUPPLY MANAGEMENT
General objectives of the course
By the end of the course, the trainee should be able to:
- Explain the role played by supply chain management in an organization.
- Describe the use of tools of analysis in decision making in supply chain management
- Communicate effectively in relation to carrying out supply chain management activities
- Apply chain management principles in an organization
- Discuss the legal aspects in supply chain management
- Demonstrate knowledge on emerging trends and issues in supply chain management
- Outline the impact of supply chain management in economic development
- Recognize self employment as an alternative to formal employment.
Course Duration
The course is designed to take 1 ½ years (i.e. 3 modules), and each module is designed to take 6 months. The pattern of attendance is evening, weekend and regular classes.
Entry Requirements
The trainee entering this course should have any of the following minimum requirements:
- Passed relevant craft course in Supply Chain Management
- Passed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an average grade of C plain and must have attained a minimum of grade C- in mathematics and English
- Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Examination Council(KNEC)
Examination.
The Kenya National Examinations Council will offer external examinations. Internal examinations will be offered by the college. The college will issue statements of results for internal examinations to the trainees.
Industrial Attachment
Before the end of the course, every trainee shall undergo an industrial attachment/internship of 3 months. Industrial attachment shall be an integral part of training and its assessment shall form part of the final grade and certification. The college in collaboration with the organization where the trainee is attached shall supervise he trainee during the industrial attachment. The examining body shall provide the modalities of industrial attachment assessment.
Careers Opportunities
Diploma in Supply Chain Management is designed to equip the trainee with relevant knowledge, skills and altitudes to enable him or her to perform supply chain management as a middle level manager n an organization. A graduate of this course will be able to work in a salaried or self-employment.

CERIFICATE IN HUMAN RESOURCE
General objectives of the course
By the end of the course, the trainee should be able to:
- Demonstrate a positive attitude towards self employment
- Apply communication skills in Human Resource Management
- Apply the principles and concepts of Office Administration and Management in an organization
- Apply the principles of Human Resource Management in an organization
- Understand the role of Labor Laws and Industrial Relations in an organization
- Appreciate the importance of Book-keeping and Account in Human Resource Management
- Appreciate the role of commerce in an economy
- Appreciate the role of research methods in carrying out a trade project
Course Duration
The course is designed to take 1 year (i.e. 2 modules), and each module is designed to take 6 months. The pattern of attendance is evening, weekend and regular classes.
Entry requirements v
- Passed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an average grade of D(D plain)
- Passed relevant Artisan course in Human Resource Management
- Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya National Examinations Council(KNEC)
Examination
The Kenya National Examinations Council will offer external examinations. Internal examinations will be offered by the college. The college will issue statements of results for internal examinations to the trainees.
Industrial Attachment
At the end of module 1 and II courses, the trainee must show evidence of having covered a minimum of 330 hours of each module for an industrial attachment. During this period each trainee will be expected to have been attached to an organization practicing the relevant trade where he/she will be expected to familiarize himself/herself with all or most aspects of the trade. The college in collaboration with the organizations where trainees are attached will supervise the trainee during the industrial attachment.

DIPLOMA IN HUMAN RESOURCE
General objectives of the course
At the end of this course, the trainee should be able to;
- Understand the role of the human resource in the achievement of the organizational goals
- Apply the principle of human resource management in an organization
- Appreciate the importance of understanding human behavior in achieving organizational goals
- Apply the principles and practices of management in enhancing organizational effectiveness
- Apply quantitative and qualitative techniques in making sound human resource decisions
- Understand legal provisions that govern labour and industrial relations
- Adopt emerging trends in human resource management
Course Duration
The course is designed to take 1 ½ years (i.e. 3 modules), and each module is designed to take 6 months. The pattern of attendance is evening, weekend and regular classes.
Entry requirements
- Passed Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with an average grade of C(C plain) OR
- Passed certificate in Human Resource Management OR passed Craft in personnel management OR Equivalent qualification OR
- Graduates of Craft Certificates Course will be advanced Credit transfer of 990 hours
Examination.
The Kenya National Examinations Council will offer external examinations. Internal examinations will be offered by the college. The college will issue statements of results for internal examinations to the trainees.
Industrial Attachment

CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT
General objectives of the course
The aims of CPA examination are to:
- Produce a professional accountant with up-to-date and advanced knowledge in the area of accounting,taxation,auditing and assurance and financial management
- Impact professional values and ethics, communication skills,creativity,innovation and ability to generate new ideas
- Provide a basis for the application and advanced knowledge in accounting and cognate subjects to different situations
Duration of Registration as a student of KASNEB
A registered student of CPA examination will be required to complete the examination within a period of nine years provided that the candidate shall complete:
- The CPA Part I examination by the end of the third year since registration.
- The CPA Part II examination by the end of the sixth year since registration
- he CPA Part III examination by the end of the ninth year since registration
Entry Requirements
- Kenya certificate of secondary Education(KCSE) examination with an aggregate average of at least grade C plus(C+) provided the applicant has obtained a minimum of a grade C plus in both English and Mathematics
- KASNEB technician or professional examination certificate
- A degree from a recognized university
- Such other certificates or diplomas as may be approved by KASNEB
Examination.
KASNEB will offer external examinations. Internal examinations will be offered by the college. The college will issue statements of results for internal examinations to the trainees.
Careers Opportunities
The course is intended to equip the trainee with knowledge, skills and altitudes that will enable him/her to perform accounting, taxation, auditing and assurance and financial management duties in an organization. A graduate of this course will be able to work in a salaried or self employment.

KENYA ACCOUNTING TECHNICIANS
General objectives of the course
By the end of the course, the trainee should be able to:
- Maintain accounting records
- Carry our routine office operations
- Undertake increasingly more challenging tasks in accounting and general office procedures
- Perform audit tasks and prepare tax computations and returns
Entry Requirements
A person seeking to be registered as a student for the ATC examination must show evidence of being a holder of one of the following qualifications:
- Kenya certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination with an aggregate average of at least grade D+ (D plus)
- Any other KASNEB technician examination certificate
- Such other certificates of diplomas as may be approved by KASNEB
Examination.
KASNEB will offer external examinations. Internal examinations will be offered by the college. The college will issue statements of results for internal examinations to the trainees.
Careers Opportunities
The aim of ATC examination is to ensure that the candidate has acquired competence and qualification required in the execution of a wide range of specialized functions in accounting, auditing, business and public office.

CERIFICATE IN MANAGEMENT
Introduction
This course is intended to introduce the learner o the key concepts of management.
Course Duration
The course is designed to last six months. The pattern of attendance is evening and regular classes.
Entry Requirements
Trainees entering this course should have any of the following as a minimum requirement:
- KCSE mean grade C-, with C- in English and C- in Mathematics/Accounting/Commerce/Economics/Business Studies.
- O-Level Division.III
- A Level Certificate.
- TC Intermediate level.
- A certificate in a Non-Business related field.
- An equivalent qualification fro a recognized institution.
Certification
A transcript and Certificate in Management shall be issued upon successful completion of this level by KIM. (Kenya Institute of Management)
Bridging course in management (BCM)
Introduction
The purpose of the bridging Course is to equip the candidates with the techniques and knowledge necessary to enable them cope with higher level courses. eg Certificate Course Management
Course Duration
The course is designed to last three months. The pattern of attendance is evening and regular classes.
Entry requirements
Trainees entering this course are required to have KCSE mean grade D or equivalent.
